Drum chipper
The increased use of round wood for wood pellet production demanded the development of a machine to reduce round wood to the final material size for pellet meal.
The machine will produce chips from 1/8” to ½” long.
The targeted production rates are from 10 tons per hour to approx 80 tons per hour nominal. A buffer of 30% to 40% should be allowed for when making a selection from the table below.
The machine is of heavy duty construction with a square tubing sub frame and vertical plates 1” thick to form the chipper box.
A sliding cover allows quick and easy access to the chipper head for knife changes and inspection
The base for the anvil is welded into the frame with a removable, indexable and adjustable insert made from tool steel.
The drum head is running on two heavy duty double spherical roller
Bearings of 4 7/16 diameter.
The head comes in a 5 or an 8 knife configuration in order to maintain flexibility for various applications.
A screen with various hole sizes will limit the size of slivers that can go through the screen
The drive base frame is designed to support one or two motors up to a total of 500 hp. The head is driven via V belt power bands with a minimum service factor of 2.00
The bottom feed is with an aggressive slat bed and one 5 hp drive motor
The top feed is with an 11” diameter Coleman strip roller and one 5 hp drive motor
Selection table:
Capacities are based on 10” diameter logs. A close look at diameter distribution needs to be taken to establish actual production levels.
The listed capacities are nominal figures only.
